The Caledonian MacBrayne ferry service makes regular trips from Oban to the Inner and Outer Hebrides, and the frequent service to the Isle of Mull gives easy access to the monastic site on Iona. Oban is the largest town in the area and has many attractions for the tourist including the Sea Life Centre at nearby Barcaldine where you can get close to the creatures in as natural an environment as possible.

McCaig's Folly dominates the skyline above Oban even in it's unfinished state. It was built by a local banker who intended to use it as a museum and an art gallery (as well as a memorial to himself) but only the outer walls were ever completed.

No tourist should pass through Oban without visiting the site if only because of the fine views it affords over Oban bay towards the Isle of Mull.
